The blessed life – Stories

Matthew 5:2-12  And he (Jesus) opened his mouth and taught them, saying: 3"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4"Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. 5"Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. 6"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. 7"Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. 8"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. 9"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. 10"Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11                "Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven,”

What is your understanding of the blessed life? The scriptures we just read speak of the one who is called “blessed”. But if you break down the verses, there doesn’t seem to be a description of ease, relaxation or a life reflecting a pleasure cruise.

This morning, we will hear stories of God’s blessing from a few of our family; not a “pot of gold at the end of the rainbow” scenarios, but how the Lord blessed them through trial, change, situations or circumstances. Many of these things were not of their own making or choosing.

Some will speak of God’s faithfulness even when they struggled with their faith and He proved faithful. For some the journey has been over a lifetime and for others they have only just started out on the narrow road of faith in Christ.

The Apostle Paul was very helpful when writing to a church struggling with trial and persecution in their new found faith. Paul described the heart disposition of a blessed person. He said to the Thessalonians, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) That’s easier said than done at times, but that’s the point.

With that said, let’s welcome the first of those who will share a little of their journey and how the Lord has blessed them…
