On the slide into the Exile!   2 Chronicles 26-36

3 lessons for us from the years leading up to the Babylonian exile.

1. Your next step could take you down.

Despite being good and following God for a season, many kings fell into the sin of pride.

We are the same - our next step could be in the wrong direction.

We need to hold the attitude of "there but for the grace of God go I”

2. Even in the Darkest Days - God is Sovereign.

God’s prophetic voice rang out through even the darkest days of wicked kings.

The message showed God is in control of the big picture and has the whole world in mind.

We should trust him in dark days too.

3. Don’t Presume Forgiveness

The exile shows us that God had come to the end of his patience with His people.

Yes, God is rich in grace and mercy, but the people aroused the "wrath of God against them until there was no remedy.”   2 Chronicles 36:16

Despite their best efforts, forgiveness was out of reach for them.

We need to be careful of the same trap.

1.      Andrew Otte mentioned all the good, the bad and the worst kings of Judah listed in 2 Chronicles 26-36. Do remember who was mentioned as good and bad kings? Who was the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) and why?

2.      Isaiah the prophet was mentioned in the message and had 3 sons. What were their names and why was King Ahaz fearful? How was this significant to the GOAT – Hezekiah and what he showed to the Babylonians and our reading in 2 Chronicles 36? How was Isaiah’s second son “Immanuel” mentioned in Isaiah 7:14 significant?

3.      Andrew mentioned the Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky scandal. Billy Graham was asked to give a comment at the time. What was his comment and how is it relevant to us? Even the best of us have issues, comment on this.
