You Go, Girl      Numbers 27:1-11

Boldness/Courage:

Who or what do you think of? Is it men of war or explorers etc.? Do you think of women with boldness?

-          Example

Background:

Children of Israel, 40 years in the wilderness

-          Counted, and about to possess the land

-          All the old people are dead. Moses still good

-          There is a gathering

Set the scene:

·       Everyone was gathered

·       Moses, Eleazar, all the chiefs – all the congregation

·       Like the president’s inauguration or a huge footy match

What happened?  BOLD (verse 2)

  • 5 women walked right up to Moses at the Tent of Meeting

  • Totally a male-dominated arena

  • Remember Moses and God’s power/judgement

  • Scary

  • Bold – yes; Courageous – yes. They believed in what they were doing

  • 5 turned up – they stuck together

Honesty:       (verse 3-4)

§  Father died

§  Not with the “Korah” mob

§  Died for his own sins

§  No sone – why should his name be rubbed out?

§  Q. Give us a possession

They were honest and bold to ask for this.

Faith:

  • Q: What were they asking for? A: land

  • Unseen, unconquered land

  • They had faith that the land would be possessed and there would be portions

  • Do you think they believed this would be granted. Do you/we have unseen, unconquered stuff we need to be bold for??

  • They could have been “toast” – E.g., Miriam (Numbers 12:1-9)

  • What was God’s answer? --> the daughters of Zelophehad are right.

  • How cool is that?! A BIG law change, the name lives on, land possession for these women, unheard up ‘til now

Boldness, Honesty and Faith had changed stuff – God blessed.

Some other wonderful examples of bold and courageous women: Abigail, Esther, The woman with the alabaster box (Matthew 26:7-13), Elisabeth Elliot.

You are not, never have been, and never will, be second class – Joint heirs with Christ.

Conclusion

Ladies. Today, I want to remind you of this – (slide)

Be bold, be courageous, be women of honest and integrity, be faithful servants of God.

I would like to end this service with saying, “Thank you.” Thank you to the women of CBC, young and old, for your:

  • Prayers

  • Tears

  • Faithful service

  • Things seen and unseen

  • Loving your husbands and bringing your kids to church

  • For being you – for being bold

Remember: you are daughters of the King and have a Heavenly Father who loves you.
